Re: Loud pipes
Don't get me wrong. I am opposed to +98db on the road. I have cans on my V11 and opted for French legal 95db versions. won't miss the couple extra ponies it might give. My riding is only goog enough to use 2/3 of the 90+ BHP I have. Maybe not even that.

It's interesting that the A49 is quite a distance from the back of his house and like all the properties on his road it has a screen of large tree's which reduce 'normal' traffic noise to an acceptable hum, however come a Sunny Sunday when the GP racers and Orange County Wannabes come out with their ILLEGAL (ie AGAINST THE LAW) race cans, this low hum becomes an annoyingly loud drone.cupidstunt wrote:Have to say i can see that this would piss him off .There is a dick head by me who has a hardly dangerous and the noise is unbelieveable and as you say we all get the bad name . It's an Interesting irony that you can't do a track day if your exhaust is too loud??..
Re: Loud pipes
I live at the side of the 57 and hear the screaming bikes constantly but it don't piss me off I quite like the sound. I also have a road legal slip-on on my bike with removable baffle (illegal) and I ride it with inserted/removed - not killing anyone either way. I also commute when the school runs on and feel safer with a little noise from the bike especially when filtering. Each to their own I suppose but thinking about it from a risk/benefit perspective Im not sure anyone's ever been killed by the noise from a bike

That blows your arguement out the water.
It is basic physics.
Sound travels in waves.
Lower the frequency and higher the volume, and the waves travel further.
It is an absolute certainty that the louder the pipe, the more people will hear it.
If only one person, who didn't see you...could instead hear you...then the point is proven. Loud pipes save lives.
I fitted my new exhaust at the weekend and I've already noticed a distinct difference in the amount of cars that move when I'm filtering...and in general the amount of pedestrians/drivers who turn their attention to me.
Re: Loud pipes
Get a hid kit they see you coming then I'm like moses parting the waves on mine with no loud pipes but then again when you see me in your rear mirror it's like is it isn't it let's let him past lol

Re: Loud pipes
Now you are changing your statement. Look at what you first said. Clearly, I have commuted through many cities and I disagree. This makes your actual statement untrue.Lilday wrote:Not really.Cabernet wrote:Ex-bike courier of 5 years around Manchester and travelling to every major city across the country from Plymouth to Norwich to Dunblane.Lilday wrote:The only people who think loud pipes don't save lives, have clearly never commuted through a busy city

Whilst sound travels in waves, the rest of your arguement I believe to be in err.
Low pitch waves don't travel so far, but are easier to identify the direct of the source.
High bitch waves such as a whilst, travels further.
Some amblances forces are now using this.
The conventional siren to notify us of their presence and then a low pitch blirt, to aid us of their direct to us.
The rest of your arguement is all in your head, or a choice to use your engine blip exhaust note in lieu of the horn.
