Had a few sets of Oxford grips without problems. They're not much more expensive than the cheapo brands either.
It's all about the TT ....

If your going down the heated grips way do some research make sure your bike can handle them, I'm sure when I installed them. They were the reason for my alternator failure and rectifier yellow wire melt.

On the pan?

Id be massively surprised.
Take about 4a on full load.

Pans are often loaded with a lot more than a set of grips.

The usual reason for a failed reg rec on a honda is cos honda made it.

Pretty much any bike will easily take a set of heated grips (if installed correctly).

If you do a bit of research all pre 96 pans came with a 28amp oil cooled alternator that was a very weak point with adding electric stuff in 1996 Honda rectified this with the 40amp air cooled alternator, although the early police specked ones had the 40amp as standard due to all the gear they carried

My mate had an early pan with heated grips.
Never had an issue.
Did you have other stuff on yours?

Apart from a hid kit but that uses less power than the two standard bulbs but I must say for 25 year old the 28amp did well since I fitted the 40amp there was a big difference in it could power a house off the bike now and yes I have done it lol well sky box TV and lamp anyway when we had a power cut two month ago

I see.
I'll amend my original comment.

"Pretty much any half decent bike will easily take a set of heated grips (if installed correctly)."

Now accurate.
