Have to agree with you on thatCabernet wrote:Definitely get shot. That would be my advice to any BMW owner once the warranty is spent.

That's a ploy by the dealer to avoid this kind of job. It is a bugger to do any major work on a BMW R or K series as there is no frame on them, just a front and rear sub frame. So any work on the engine, clutch or gearbox is not just an engine out, it's a complete dis-assembly, fueling and electric too. Now if they had a near bullet proof engine and gearbox like the Pan European ST1100 (the best BMW BMW never built) it wouldn't be such a problem.pch1 wrote:I called Williams BMW in Manchester during my lunch to get an estimate for repair costs.
Without looking at the bike they have quoted me £1,500 to strip down the gearbox and inspect for damage.

Well it took a while to turn you, just sorry you needed a hit in the wallet to do it.pch1 wrote:Have to agree with you on thatCabernet wrote:Definitely get shot. That would be my advice to any BMW owner once the warranty is spent.
Just need Chaz to wake up and smell the coffee. Then again, rolling out of them before the bullet proof warranty runs out, from his perspective they probably aren't such a bad prospect.

OK.... I'll bite
The free latte in Williams showroom is really nice actually....
You name a bike manufacturer... I'll name a horror story from lots of people... The internet is a wonderful place where things go wrong and people can have a collective whinge about it... What you miss out on is the one's who are happy with their products, keeping quiet..
I know... let me pick one as an example... Say an MT09 !!
Ohh look theyre talking about snatchy throttles and remaping the ECU... thata not very good is it..
How about,
Complaints about crap stock suspension
Running Hot
Drive train puller deformnig
the official where is yours rusting thread !!
Dont take this as a slating of a particular product. Its an example of internet woe's. Im sure the MT09 is a good bike... They are out selling a GS so they cant be wrong hey ....
I like Beemer's. I like the product, I like the character of the boxer engine, I like the funny suspension, I like the toys and gadgets, I like the design intent of function before form, I like the customer service provided. I am totally blinkered.... I am brainwashed... I am clearly a fool !! But a happy one !!
